COALESCENT GRAFT | Generative Revitalization of the Helsinki South Harbour
Competition Entry, 2011
Location : Helsinki, Finland
The project seeks to extend the character districts surrounding the South Harbour to the waterfront by grafting the essence of their vital features into the existing seams between them, thereby providing a more engaging front to the sea and boosting the vitality of the harbour.
Sutured by unimpeded pedestrian and bikeway access, and energized by various interactive public programs, the grafts coalesce to create a new image centre for Helsinki, a revitalized gateway to the city and a vast new civic amenity.
